Georgia Tourism

Georgia is known for a variety of characteristics --- luscious peaches, stately Savannah, "Georgia On My Mind" --- but three aspects that make it an excellent tourist destination are its state parks, beaches and Civil War battlegrounds.

  1. State Parks

    • Georgia has numerous state parks that offer hikers, campers and outdoor lovers ample opportunities for adventure and communing with nature. Parks such as Tugaloo, Vogel and F.D. Roosevelt offer more than 100 campsites, and the largest --- Elijah Clark State Park --- features nearly 200 campsites.

    Beaches

    • The southeastern coastline of Georgia may only stretch 130 miles --- from Fernandina Beach, FL, to Savannah, GA --- but it harbors a number of oceanside destinations worthy of weekend summer excursions. St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island and Callaway Gardens are three popular destinations offering sand, surf and sun.

    Civil War Battlegrounds

    • The state of Georgia played a significant role during "The War Between The States," and a thriving tourist industry revolves around showcasing the legendary Civil War battlegrounds that folks have read about in their history books. One of the richest sites is the Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park, which contains more than 1,400 monuments and historical battle markers.
