Tourism in Georgia, USA

Located in the southeast United States, Georgia features sites, attractions and interests for any traveler. Families, couples and other guests can find some sort of entertainment at various points around the state.

  1. Regions

    • Georgia is one of the country's most diverse states, made up of regions like the popular metro Atlanta, mountains, lake country and scenic coastal areas. Nearly every spot includes some sort of historic site or feature, especially pertaining to the Civil War.

    Attractions

    • Families will enjoy such attractions as Six Flags Over Georgia in Austell and the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. Historic downtown Savannah, near Tybee Island and its beach, offers shops and Southern cuisine. The Chattahoochee National Forest takes up most of northeast Georgia.

    Food

    • Southern cooking and other American favorites are aplenty around Georgia. Atlanta is home to the sophisticated Bone's and Dolce, and more budget-friendly choices like the Varsity, and Savannah is home to Paula Deen's The Lady and Sons. Local favorites also include The Flying Biscuit and The Vortex, with several locations around metro Atlanta.

    Travel

    • Atlanta is one of the most traffic congested cities in America. It's home to the world's busiest airport, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, and long, crowded rush hours. However, areas like Athens, downtown Atlanta and Savannah are pedestrian friendly with mass transit systems.

    Weather

    • Georgia is known for humid summers and cool winters. North Georgia experiences light snow falls throughout winter. South Georgia summers get hot and wet, and most of Georgia experiences strong thunderstorms throughout the warm months.
