Milford is a town of approximately 50,000 people in southern Connecticut, along the shore of the Long Island Sound. The Milford Green is northwest of Milford Harbor, which feeds into the sound. Historically, town greens were tracts of land designated for public use, such as for cattle grazing, military parades or public gathering spots. The Milford Green is now a park and there are several restaurants in the area.
Rainbow Gardens Restaurant & Bar is near the center of Milford Green in a Victorian house renovated by owners Heather and John Profetto. The eclectic menu features appetizers such as crab cakes, coconut shrimp and grilled eggplant with sweet pepper hummus. Entrees are all salads, such as the Border Patrol, which is tuna steak with a tortilla crust, served over greens with pineapple salsa and cucumber and wasabi dressing. The quiche of the day is also available as an entree, served with a side salad or the soup of the day. The bar serves wine and mixed drinks and guests can have their drinks indoors or on the patio. Rainbow Gardens also offers a special catering menu for weddings or other events.
