Epcot Center is the main attraction of the Epcot theme park in Walt Disney World. It is most commonly associated with the iconic white golf ball-looking Spaceship Earth building.
The name Epcot comes from an acronym for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow.
Epcot is the pinnacle of Walt Disney's dream. Disney himself did not live to see Epcot opened; he died in 1966, and the park opened in 1982. The park was originally named Epcot Center but was changed simply to Epcot in 1993.
The Epcot theme park is divided into two sections: Future World and the World Showcase. Future World celebrates innovation; the World Showcase features the cultures of 11 worldwide countries.
Epcot is known for its attractions and special events. The "Holidays Around the World" event celebrates holiday celebrations from different countries; it features a candlelight procession and includes guest appearances by film and television stars. The Epcot International Food and Wine Festival takes place each fall and celebrates food from around the world. Some events require special entrance tickets.
