Events & Attractions in San Augustine, Texas

San Augustine is in East Texas, one hour from the Texas and Louisiana border. The city has a population of about 2,600. It is home to 70 historical land markers and more than 140 cemeteries. The city offers several events providing food and entertainment for residents and visitors alike.

  1. Sassafras Festival

    • The annual Sassafras Festival started in 1990 and is a two-day event in San Augustine. The fall festival features the Sassafras Dance at the Cotton Gin in Santa Fe Park, live entertainment, merchandise for sale, antiques and a classic car show display. There is also a barbecue cook-off and wheelchair races.

    El Camino Real Sale on the Trail

    • The El Camino Real Sale on the Trial is 200 miles of yard sales, flea markets, trade shows, sidewalk sales and garage sales. The sale began in 2008, and merchants from Natchitoches to Crockett participate. Yellow and red balloons mark the sale route, so visitors and residents can find all the deals.

    Civic Auction

    • The San Augustine Chambers of Commerce holds its annual Civic Auction in the San Augustine Expo Building. The September auction features various donated items and prizes up for bid and for raffle. The Chamber of Commerce fundraiser also features a variety of food for a nominal fee.
