What are Some Things to Do in December in San Francisco?

Far from peak tourist season, a December outing in San Francisco will be slightly cooler (highs in the 50s) than the summer months, but will still provide you with a host of activities.

  1. Christmas at Sea

    • This Christmas celebration includes cider, caroling and storytime. It takes place aboard the historic ships docked at the maritime museum.

    The Nutcracker

    • This cherished Tchaikovsky classic is a must-see near Christmastime. The San Francisco Ballet puts on a time-honored version. If you plan to see the ballet, order your tickets well in advance.

    Dungeness Crab

    • While at Fisherman's Wharf take a moment to sample one of these local favorites fresh from the sea. They are only in season from November until April, so they are a treasure that summer visitors miss out on.

    The Dance-Along Nutcracker

    • If you think you would rather get in on the action that watch the San Fransisco Ballet's version of this holiday classic then try the Dance-Along Nutcracker put on annually by the San Francisco Gay/Lesbian Freedom Orchestra. The event comes complete with tutu rental.

    Deck the Hall

    • This is San Francisco Symphony Orchestra's annual Christmas event. The orchestra plays while the famous story Twas the Night Before Christmas is read and acted out with puppetry.
