  1. Wishes for the Sky

    • Wishes for the Sky is an annual event celebrating Earth Day and wishing for a better tomorrow, today. Created by Marcus Young and friends, Wishes for the Sky was inspired by the Asian tradition of flying wishes on kites. All guests are given a free swallow-shaped kite from a local elder in the wish-making pavilion to decorate and write a wish on before flying. Over 4,500 individuals have attended the event since 2007 and it is a wonderful educational event for the entire family.

    Red Bull Flugtag

    • The Red Bull Flugtag mission, according to its website, "is to challenge teams of everyday people to build homemade, human-powered flying machines and pilot them off of a 30-foot deck in hopes of achieving flight." While most machines lack success in flight distance, watching both flights and crashes makes for quite the event. First taking place in Vienna, Austria in 1991, Harriet Island has hosted the free event since 2010, launching fearless teams into the Mississippi river. The Red Bull Flutag takes place in multiple waterfront cities throughout the summer, presented on Harriet Island once annually.
