West Wendover, Nevada, a small town just across the Utah border, is perhaps most known for its handful of casino resorts and proximity to the famed Bonneville Salt Flats on the edge of the Great Salt Lake Desert. For RV campers who plan to hit the casinos or visit the salt flats or other nearby attractions, West Wendover is home to the area's only two RV parks. Overnight RV camping is not allowed at the salt flats, and the next-closest RV resorts are in Wells, nearly 60 miles west of town.
The year-round Wendover KOA, about 10 miles west of the Bonneville Salt Flats, provides a number of full-hookup sites, as well as some sites with water and electric only. Pull-through sites are available for larger RVs up to 80 feet. Campers can enjoy mountain views and a chance to observe the herds of wild mustangs that frequent the area around the park. Amenities at the pet-friendly park include shuttle service to nearby casinos, cable and Wi-Fi connections, a grocery and souvenir shop, laundry facilities, a seasonal outdoor pool, playground, miniature golf and basketball, tetherball and volleyball courts. Tent sites and camping cabins also are available.
Wendover Resorts -- which owns the Wendover Nugget and Red Garter, two of West Wendover's five casino resorts -- has a small RV park with 18 full-hookup sites just southeast of the Nugget. The paved sites include cable TV hookups and trash service, and campers have access to the Nugget's amenities such as a pool, spa, arcade and free casino shuttle. Campers should check rates and availability at the Nugget's front desk.
Wells, Nevada is ringed by the scenic Humboldt and Ruby mountain ranges and home to attractions such as fishing and hiking along Angel Lake, the California Interpretive Trail Center and Metropolis Ghost Town. The town has several RV parks within an hour's drive of West Wendover. Angel Lake RV, Crossroads RV Park and Mountain Shadows RV Park are pet-friendly and have full-hookup sites, Wi-Fi, cable television access and RV dump stations. Monthly rates are available at each location.
