Free campgrounds can be found throughout the state of Florida, usually off the beaten path. Some are maintained as official free sites by cities or the state and rarely offer modern amenities. While some are intended to be temporary resting spots, others are conveniently located and are well-suited for extended stays.

Middleton's Fish Camp is located on Blue Cypress Lake and offers free camping in any of its 10 RV sites and 15 tent sites, though none have electric or water hookups. Bathroom and shower facilities are available.

There are about 10 free sites in the Apalachicola National Forest on Wood Lake Road. The site are located near a boat ramp providing access to the Ochlockonee River. No electricity, water or bathrooms are available at these rustic sites.

Directions: Take U.S. 319 south and travel 4 miles past Sopchoppy. Take a right on Curtis Mill Road and go about 3 miles. Turn left on Bluff Lake Road about 3/4 of a mile. Take Wood Lake Road on left to find campground. Watch for National Forest sign for Wood Lake.
With 15 free sites available for RV and tent camping, Williams Landing near Tallahassee is one of the nicest free campgrounds in Florida. Amenities include covered shelters, picnic areas, grills and a fishing pier. Water and restrooms are also available.
