RV Camping in Charlotte, North Carolina

Charlotte, North Carolina, the largest city in the state, provides many locations for RV camping. This allows for the convenience and experience of camping, while having the capability of enjoying the city life. When seeking a campground in the Charlotte area, it is important to note that Charlotte, North Carolina, and Fort Mill, South Carolina, run together on the Carolina borders. Camping can be found minutes away from Paramount's Carowinds Theme Park, Lowe's Motor Speedway, Lake Wylie and downtown Charlotte.

  1. Elmore RV Park

    • Elmore RV Park is a family-owned operation that opened in 1949. The current owners purchased the facility in the late 1980s. It is located on six acres, with a total of 33 hookups available. It is situated conveniently on a bus route, and going into the city will be a breeze. This is the only RV park located in the Charlotte city limits. Water, power and sewage are available at each site, with many also containing a concrete patio and shaded areas. Extended stays are available. Rates are $32 a night, with a three-night minimum. Weekly rentals are available for $140, while monthly rentals are $400.

    Fieldridge Acres

    • Fieldridge Acres is located eight miles from the downtown city life of Charlotte. In business for over 30 years, this is a no-frills campground. If you are simply looking for a place to park your RV for a few days, this is the campground for you. There are 94 hookups with water, sewage and electricity. With rates starting at $20 a night, Fieldridge makes for a cheap stay when visiting the many amenities in the city. For weekly stays, the rate is $120, while $400 will set you up for a month.

    Charlotte/Fort Mill KOA

    • Jumping pillow, mini-golf, outdoor pool, banana bike rentals and outdoor movies are all a part of the activities you can find at the KOA Campground in the Charlotte/Fort Mill area. With a food and bar lounge available, there is no need to leave the premises. There are over 200 sites available, all with full hookups. There is also a bathhouse with 20 showers and 20 toilets. Rates range from $30 to $50 a night.

    Camp Wilderness Campground

    • Located on 55 acres and adjacent to Paramount Carowinds, Camp Wilderness offers over 140 RV sites, all which are pet-friendly. All sites have full hookups; however, there are 50 with an increased 50-amp hookup. RVs up to 40 feet long can be accommodated, and there is a charcoal grill at every site. There are bathroom facilities at the campground, along with a picnic shelter for each site. Amenities include free shuttle service to Paramount Carowinds, discounted tickets into the park, an on-site swimming pool with a lifeguard, a miniature golf course, shuffleboard and even a 1,000-square-foot playground.
