North Carolina Beach Campgrounds

North Carolina beaches are, for the most part, rather secluded. The Outer Banks make up hundreds of miles of beach, and is basically a long strip of sand dune off the coast. While it is remote, it draws a lot of tourists during the summer. There are also campgrounds in the southern part of the state that are not on the Outer Banks. Campgrounds range from beach areas with no services, to fully developed modern RV sites.
  1. Cape Lookout National Seashore

    • For some rustic camping, consider the Cape Lookout National Seashore. There are two areas--Long Point and Great Island--with a total of 41 rustic cabins. The cabins are generator-ready, have hot water heaters, beds and a kitchen table. For tent camping, there is no traditional campground, but there are primitive areas along the beach where camping is allowed. There are no services, not even water, but you may pick a spot along the beach and camp. There is a historic lighthouse on the beach, and you may take a boat to the national seashore where there are more miles of secluded beaches. Wild ponies, as well as an abundance of other wildlife, may also be observed.

    Adventure Bound Campground

    • Adventure Bound Campground offers adventurous camping. There are no marked campgrounds, you can set up camp anywhere you like on the grounds. They cannot accommodate RVs or pop-ups, but there is plenty of room for camping either on the beach or back in the marshes. There are wooded area campsites with shade, grassy campsites and a few places on the beach. The history of Kitty Hawk is nearby, as well as the Outer Banks. There is a bathhouse with showers, and it offers free use of crab nets and lines, boogie boards and lawn chairs. The campground has one centrally located campfire shared by all campers. Bike and hiking trails are plentiful in the area, and there is a lot of wildlife to see. The North Carolina Coastal Reserve also has many marked trails in the area.
