Incorporated in 1963, Topsail Beach is the smallest community on Topsail Island and is approximately 45 miles from Wilmington. For tourists, the Topsail Beach area is home to attractions like the The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue & Rehabilitation Center, the Missiles & More Museum, as well as its public beaches. Located in Holly Ridge, Lanier's Campground is eight miles from Topsail Beach (about 23 minutes by automobile). The campground has 400 tent or RV campsites, 44 of which are available for short-term, overnight stays as opposed to long-term rentals. The short-term sites measure 25 feet by 60 feet in size. Around half of the spaces have full electric, water and sewage hookups with the remaining sites offering only water and electricity. Free wireless Internet is accessible throughout the park. On-site amenities include restrooms, showers, a laundry facility, public telephones and weekly interdenominational Christian church services. The camp sells firewood, RV supplies and propane refills, and a snack bar is located on the property. Lanier's offers a ramp and a dock for access to the Intracoastal Waterway for saltwater fishing and boating. Guests can also enjoy the camp's swimming pool, horseshoe pits, arcade room with video games and billiard tables and seasonal activities like beach bingo.

Also located in Holly Ridge, Topsail Sound RV Park is 14 miles from Topsail Beach (around 33 minutes by automobile). The campground has 345 RV campsites, with a varying number available for overnight rentals depending on the demand for long-term leases. Most sites measure 37 feet by 50 feet in size, and full electric, water and sewage hookups are available throughout the park. The campground offers restrooms, showers and laundry facilities. A swimming pool, arcade and playground are also available on the property. Guests can access the Intracoastal Waterway from the park for boating or enjoy the campground's 100-foot public fishing pier.

Situated in North Topsail Beach, the Surf City Family Campground is 10 miles from Topsail Beach (about 22 minutes by automobile). The campground has 90 RV and tent campsites, with 40 available for overnight vacation stays. These dirt, short-term campsites measure around 20 feet by 43 feet in size. Half have full electric, water and sewage hookups, while the other half feature only electricity and water. Cable television connections are available at every campsite. For campers' convenience, the park provides restrooms and showers and a small store that sells basic groceries and RV supplies. The campground is adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean and offers saltwater fishing and swimming along the beach area. An indoor, air-conditioned game room is also located on the property.
