Located on a peninsula off the coast of southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod is divided into upper-, mid- and lower-regions, with Provincetown the final destination on the tip of the peninsula and the islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard to the south. A majority of historic home tours and museums are located in the mid-Cape Cod town of Yarmouth, which once had been home to Edward Gorey, sea captain Bangs Hallet and the colonial antique collector Mary Thatcher.
Celebrating the life and times of famous children's book author and artist Edward Gorey, the Edward Gorey House features a home tour, rotating exhibits that feature his many contributions to the art world and even opportunities to buy authentic etchings. The house and museum are open from April 15 through December 19 on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. Additionally, the museum is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays from April 15 to June 27 and Wednesdays and Thursdays from June 28 through October 3. The price of admission for adults is $5, children under 12, $2, children under 6 are free and seniors and students $3.

Free for residents of Yarmouth and only $4 for the public, the Winslow Crocker House was owned and dedicated by Mary Thatcher, a collector of colonial furniture and antiques. The home was moved by Thatcher from its West Barnstable location in 1936 to where it currently resides next to the Thatcher House, which is not open to the public. A great home tour for colonial Cape Cod perspective, the Winslow Crocker House displays colonial hooked rugs, pewter, ceramics and other household art and furniture. Now owned by the Historic New England association, the home and museum are open the first and third Saturdays of the month, with tours given from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
