18 & Over Clubs in Detroit

The choice of 18-and-over night clubs in Detroit is limited, because the drinking age is 21. Although they won't be served alcohol, those who are 18 and over do have options when it comes to enjoying a night of entertainment at a club. These nightclubs tend to be more like concert halls that feature live bands and DJs, as well as dance parties.

  1. Altered State

    • Altered State is a popular dance party held every Saturday evening at the State Theater, a large venue in downtown Detroit that is a dance club and also offers live music. The Saturday show features up-tempo dance music spun by DJs, and is open to anyone 18 and over. The State Theater is a large facility with multiple dance floors in a building that can accommodate up to 1,500 people. The Altered State party begins at 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and the dress code does not allow athletic wear, sleeveless shirts, baggy clothes, or athletic caps.

    Backstreet Nightclub

    • The Backstreet Nightclub, located in a shopping plaza, got its start in 1979 and serves an 18-and-over crowd on both Friday and Saturday evenings. Patrons 18 and over--yet still under 21--pay twice as much as patrons over 21. The Backstreet Nightclub primarily draws a gay crowd, although it also entertains straight and curious patrons with DJ music, video screens, and various drink specials. Male dancers and scantily-clad bartenders are regularly featured. The club has three different sections, multiple dance floors, and four separate bars, including one located outside.
