      Alcala Gallery located in La Jolla Village specializes in ancient pre-Colombian and tribal art, porcelain and sculptures. In addition, American Impressionism, California landscapes and rare books are on view. Exhibits highlight distinguished California artists and masters, such as Carolus Verhaeren and Charles Reiffel.     Museums

    • Museum of Making Music is located in Carlsbad, north coastal San Diego County. This museum explores the history of music making from the 1890s to the present. A series of chronologically divided galleries and hand-on interactive exhibits take visitors through a century of vintage instruments and modernizations that have influenced popular music. Admission can be purchased online and children under five free.

      The Timken Museum of Art is located in Balboa Park adjacent to the Botanical Gardens. This art museum accommodates an impressive collection of European old masters, Russian icons and American art from the thirteenth century to nineteenth century. Painters, such as Rembrandt, Rubens and Murillo to American artists, such as Martin Johnson Heade and Eastman Johnson are on display. Admission is free and the museum is closed on Mondays.

    • The Cygnet Theatre Company is located in Old Town San Diego State Park. Voted in the top five for “Best Theater Group,” this newly renovated theatre has accommodations for 248 patrons. Productions are an eclectic fusion from suspenseful dramas, such as \"Sweeney Todd,\" to the classics like \"It’s a Wonderful Life.\" Cygnet Theater Company offers matinee discounts. Purchasing tickets in advance is recommended.

      Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater is located in Balboa Park with indoor seating for 264 visitors. Performances vary from traditional tales to contemporary ones. A diverse mix of puppet troupes performs throughout the year. Shows feature marionettes, rod puppets, hand puppets and shadow puppets to name a few. Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater is suitable for all ages and is easy on the pocket.
