Besides going to the beach or the zoo, there are many activities for children in San Diego. When selecting an activity, it is important to keep in mind the ages of children involved. Some activities will be enjoyable for younger kids but boring to older children. With this in mind, there are places you can go in San Diego that will be fun for the whole family.
The Family Kayak Adventure Center has kayak tours available for children ages two and older. The whole family will enjoy kayaking on Mission Bay, San Diego Bay, and the local lakes. The two- and three-person kayaks have a large open cockpit and are built so they do not tip over, making them very safe for young children. All participants are required to wear a life vest and Family Kayak Adventure Center provides child-sized paddles. Older family members are paired with the younger children in the kayaks. No experience is necessary as Family Kayak Adventure Center provides lessons. Reservations are required as well as permission forms that must be signed.

For fun and education, San Diego has the Earth Exposed Exhibition. Children will enjoy more than 30 exhibits that allow visitors to get hands-on learning about weather and land phenomenon. Kids can experience getting lost in a storm at sea, learn how a volcano erupts, and experience a geyser exploding. The exhibit also has Earth Labs, which allows children to use tools, props, materials and multi-media displays to learn more about the planet.

Barnstorming Adventures offers warbird flights for kids ages two and older. Warbird Adventures lets passengers fly in a 1941 North American SNJ-4 Texan. A trained pilot flies the plane while passengers sit in the back cockpit. Flights are for 40 minutes or longer, and passengers will experience loops, rolls and half-cuban eights. The handicapped and those with special needs are welcome to fly. Barnstorming Adventures also offers biplane tours, air combat adventures as well as a fly and dine package. Reservations are recommended, and tickets expire six months after the date of purchase.
