List of Army Bases in Utah

Utah has three army installations within its borders as well as one National Guard base. The army installations are the Deseret Chemical Depot, the Dugway Proving Ground and the Tooele Army Depot. The National Guard base is Camp W.G. Williams.

  1. The Deseret Chemical Depot

    • The Deseret Chemical Depot is in Tooele, Utah. It is one of six installations in the United States that stores chemical weapons. Since 1942, the U.S. Army has stored 44 percent of the nation's chemical weapons at DCD. Since 1996, the DCD has been engaged in destroying these weapons at a nearby specially-designed facility.

    Tooele Army Depot

    • The Tooele Army Depot is also in Tooele, Utah. It is a center for the storage, maintenance, destruction, and distribution of ammunition for a wide variety of different types of weapons. In addition to providing this service for the Army, the Tooele Depot also sells, receives, stores, issues, renovates, modifies, maintains and destroys munitions for a wide variety of private customers.

    Dugway Proving Ground

    • The Dugway Proving Ground is about 80 miles southwest of Salt Lake City. With 798,214 acres, it is the site of testing for biological and chemical weapons as well as environmental characterization, remediation technology testing, and the testing of battlefield smokes and obscurants.

    Camp W.G. Williams

    • Located in Riverton, Utah, on the west slope of the Traverse Mountains, Camp Williams is a training site for the Utah National Guard. About 28,000 acres are set aside for training for up to 2,800 soldiers at once. A wide variety of facilities are provided, including firing ranges, maneuvering areas, and artillery firing points. The surrounding areas are used for specialized winter, desert, mountain, and amphibious training.
