List of Utah Ski Resorts

Utah is a state in the Mountain West region of the United States. This state provides opportunities for winter sports in the Wasatch Mountains in the northern part of the state, as well as Dixie National Forest in the state's southern region. The ski season in Utah typically lasts from November through April, depending on the amount snowfall. Many of the resorts offer lodging accommodations on site.

  1. Brian Head Resort

    • The Brian Head Resort is in south Utah's Dixie National Forest, otherwise known as the “Color Country.” This resort offers skiers and snowboarders with 65 runs, as well as nine lifts for transportation up the mountain. Trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are available as well. As of 2010, the hours of operation at Brian Head are 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Night skiing is permitted. The ski season at this resort usually runs from November through April. A terrain park is on the resort's property and facilitates half-pipe activities.

    Powder Mountain Resort

    • The Powder Mountain Resort, located in the northern Utah's Wasatch Mountains, is an approximate 30 minute drive from Ogden. This 7,000-acre resort has three mountains with 135 trails for skiing and snowboarding. Skier and snowboarders can also take advantage of the seven ski lifts. Snowcat and heli-skiing activities are permitted. The resort's hours of operation, as of 2010, are 9:00 a.m. to 10 p.m., which allows for night skiing. Skiing and snowboarding lessons are provided by the resort's staff, and available to visitors of all ages. The ski season at Powder Mountain runs from December to April.

    Beaver Mountain

    • The family-owned and operated Beaver Mountain ski area in Garden City is nestled in the heart of the Wasatch Mountains, less than 20 minutes from the Utah-Idaho border. Skiers and snowboarders can take advantage of the 23 trails on the resort's property, as well as three lifts for transportation. Depending on the amount of snowfall, the ski season at Beaver Mountain runs from December through March. As of 2010, the hours of operation during the ski season are 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. Trails for snow tubing are available. The resort provides skiing and snowboarding rentals to its guests.

    Park City Mountain Resort

    • Park City Mountain Resort is in the northern Utah Wasatch Mountains, less than an hour east of Salt Lake City. This resort provides 15 ski lifts to transport skiers and snowboarders to the 108 trails throughout the resort's property. Night skiing is allowed at this resort. The hours of operation during the ski season, as of 2010, are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The ski season normally runs from November throughout April. Park City Mountain Resort is home to the annual Sundance Film Festival, which occurs in January, and hosts music concerts during the summer.

    Alta Ski Area

    • Located in the Wasatch Mountains, Alta Ski Area is a 45 minute drive southeast of Salt Lake City and features 2,200 acres with 116 skiing slopes. The resort also provides 11 lifts for transportation to these trails. Cross-country and snowshoeing trails are available as well. During the ski season, the hours of operation are 9:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., as of 2010. The ski season runs from November through April, depending on the amount of snowfall. Skiing rentals and lessons are available for adults and children. Condominium and chalet rentals are within 10 minutes of Alta Ski Area.
