Breckenridge, Colorado, is an historic town founded in1859 and situated in Summit County, for which it also serves as the county seat. During the winter season, the town is a bustling skiing destination. It also is a popular summer vacation spot with recreational activities, like fly fishing, hiking and whitewater rafting. Winter visitors to Breckenridge may stay at various ski resorts in the area.
Breckenridge Ski Resort was established in December 1961, and is open for winter sports between November and April every year. The mountain's base elevation is 9,600 feet and the summit elevation is 12,998 feet. The resort consists of 772 acres of bowls, 30 lifts, 155 trails, 25 acres of terrain parks and 2,353 acres of total terrain. The longest trail, which is known as "Four O' Clock," is 3 1/2 miles in length.

Copper Mountain Resort is located in Frisco, Colorado, which is about 20 minutes away from Breckenridge. Copper Mountain Resort is a popular vacation spot for winter and summer activities. It is noteworthy for its downhill skiing and snowboarding in particular, with terrain that is naturally divided, and consists of sloping, moderate runs and extremely steep runs. For expert riders and skiers, the resort also has a handful of wide-open bowls. The terrain is diverse and offers something for skiers and riders of all levels of ability.

Arapahoe Basin Ski and Snowboard Area is situated in nearby Dillon, which is less than half an hour away from Breckenridge. The resort was established in 1946 and since then has been a well-known skiing destination in the region. The summit receives more than 350 inches of snow every year and the summit elevation is 13,050 feet. Skiing is available from the end of October to the beginning of June every year. The region is noteworthy for having one of North America's longest skiing seasons. The resort has 105 trails and two freestyle terrain parks, which are known as High Divide and Treeline. Freestyle terrain has terrain variations that are both artificial and natural.
