Four lakes is located in Lisle, Ill., about 45 minutes from Elgin, and is a small ski resort that offers four trails during the winter ski season. Each trail is designated for use by beginners, intermediate, and advanced skiers. The resort offers ski lessons and equipment rentals to guests over nine years old throughout the week. Season passes are available at discounted prices October through February. The resort also offers dining and cocktails.

Chestnut Mountain Resort is an all-inclusive ski resort located less than three hours from Elgin in Galena, Ill. The resort covers over 20,000 square feet, has a quad chair, triple chair, and three surface lifts. Chestnut Mountain also offers a 475-foot drop with 19 runs designated for beginner to expert skiers. During the summer season, the resort offers an Alpine Slide, golf, and several other outdoor activities. Dining and lodging are also available on site.
