Timber Lake Resort is the closest resort, at roughly five miles away from Lake Carroll, located in the town of Mount Carroll. For more than 60 years Timber Lake Resort has offered rustic accommodations and camping, surrounded by 100 acres of forests and 11 acres of spring fed lake. The grounds allow guests to participate in a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, fishing, swimming and even offer canoes and paddleboats for use. The resort also features a large outdoor swimming pool, game room, recreation hall, lakeside deck and general store. Visitors have the option of camping or renting out one of the two-bedroom cabins that include sleeping for six, a television, microwave charcoal grill and most having lakeside views.
Roughly 10 miles from Lake Carroll and about one mile from the Iowa border is Buck's Barn Golf Resort, located right on Highway 84 and a short drive from Tri-Township Airport. It offers old touches as well as updated features including a working farm, hand-pump water station and windmill as well as an 18-hole golf course and modern accommodation amenities. The 55-room lodge features an indoor swimming pool, a restaurant, lounge and a banquet hall that can hold up to 1,000 people. As of early 2011, Buck's Barn Golf Resort also offers a number of golf packages including the Birdie Package that includes two days of golf, 1 night in the lodge and a $10 restaurant and golf shop credit.
The Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa is roughly 20 miles northeast of Lake Carroll, located in the town of Galena. Galena is a historical town that sits on the Mississippi River and offers a number of cultural attractions including the home of Ulysses S. Grant. Since 1970, Eagle River Resort has offered more than 80 rooms in the Inn and more than 300 privately owned resort homes for rent. The grounds also feature an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, fitness center, tennis and volleyball courts and a variety of spa packages.
