For your next vacation, a rented cabin hits the sweet spot between rustic and romantic, with plenty of scenic charm and privacy. For a heavy dose of Southern-style romance, Alabama has several cabin offerings within driving distance of Birmingham, including honeymoon cabins with views of the Warrior River and one-bedroom cabins at the tip of the Appalachian Plateau.
The Honeymoon cabin at Capps Cove in Oneonta, 30 miles north of Birmingham, is designed for romance. Antique décor offsets a large bath with two bathrobes and an outdoor swing overlooks the Blackburn Fork of the Warrior River. A complimentary breakfast basket is also provided, along with popcorn, cheese, crackers, teas, coffee and soft drinks. If the Honeymoon Cabin is booked, you can also try Capps Cove's additional lodging, the Little House on the Prairie cabin. Lake Guntersville State Park, a 90-minute ride from Birmingham, offers a honeymoon chalet in addition to its numerous two-bedroom cabins and chalets. The honeymoon suite has a king-sized bed, a Jacuzzi-style bathtub and a cable television with a DVD player. Outside, couples can enjoy a private hot tub, gas grill and a romantic swing for two. All cabins and chalets at the park are furnished and provide views of the 69,000-acre Lake Guntersville. The park requires a minimum two-night stay.
If you're looking for a mountain retreat, one-bedroom Stoneridge Cottage II on Lookout Mountain is designated adults-only. This secluded one-bedroom cabin comes with a private hot tub, stone fireplace and vaulted ceilings with a sunset view of the valley from the cabin's screened porch. While the cabin offers all the privacy a couple might need, you can also enjoy a dinner for two in downtown Mentone, which is within walking distance. Mentone is a two-hour drive from Birmingham.
