Texas is known for its vast expanses, wildlife and scenic beauty. Camping is widely available throughout the state, however there are certain locations that are more uniquely majestic and epic than others. Whether you want to do some hiking, rafting or just want beautiful views in a natural setting, these camping areas are sure to meet your expectations.
Located just outside of Fredricksburg, Texas, Enchanted Rock is a large natural rock formation made out of pink granite. The National Natural Landmark is available for nightly tent camping year round and has a variety of sites and facilities.
The campground has more than 40 tent sites, some of them including shade shelters. There are clean restrooms and showers, as well as a playground, camp store, hiking trail and several picnic areas. The campground also sits on a small creek where campers can swim and fish. Enchanted Rock provides excellent hiking opportunities as it covers 640 acres and rises 425 feet.

Big Bend is a large national park in west Texas that covers 1,000 miles partially along the Rio Grande River. Big Bend has more than 225 campsites spread out over six different campgrounds. Water and electric hookups are available at each campsite, along with restrooms on each campground. Many of the campsites have picnic tables and barbecue pits, however, burn bans are often enforced.
For recreation, the park offers many guided ranger tours and wildlife discussions, as well as an abundance of hiking, fishing, swimming and rafting. Horse riding is permitted in limited use throughout the park, and there are several designated rock climbing areas as well. Canoeing and rafting is permitted in limited use throughout the back country as well as mountain biking.

Marfa is a small town in the desert hills of west Texas that is known for its scenic beauty as well as the anomaly known as The Marfa Lights, the strange, shimmering and unexplainable lights that appear every clear night in the Marfa skies. The town was also made famous as the shooting location for the films \"Giant\" starring James Dean, and the 2007 film \"There Will Be Blood.\"
There are a few tent camping locations in and just outside of Marfa, all offer showers and restrooms, along with on-site picnic tables and barbecue grills. El Cosmico is a vintage trailer and teepee hotel in Marfa with several tent sites available as well. El Cosmico has hammocks, free Wi-Fi, and a kitchen for shared use. Located 20 miles outside the city of Marfa, Overland Trail Camping has more than a dozen tent sites and provides free wireless internet and a laundry room as well. MacMillen in the Highlands RV Resort, also 20 miles outside of Marfa, offers more than 30 tent sites, as well as a laundry room and social room with cable television.
