Purchase an up-to-date map of the entire region and locate the region you wish to visit. The Amazon area covers several countries such as Peru, Equador, Columbia and Brazil. Brazil is a tourism hot-spot with a vibrant and culturally varied city life in Rio de Janeiro. Rio de Janeiro is often used as a stopover destination and is a safe place to gather the supplies you need for your trip. Catch a tour-flight from Rio to Manaus, which is right on the Amazon River. Manaus is a popular city in Brazil that features many different tourism companies to assist in your Amazon camping trip. They will also handle any permits that may be required for certain tours. One widely acclaimed tour company in Manaus is Amazonia Fascinante, which offers extensive camping tours that come with a minimum of two guides per camping party.
Clear the premises using a large branch or rake, making sure to remove any debris from the ground of your campsite. Spread out a large canvas tarp on the ground to go underneath your tent. Erect the tent over the tarp and use a mallet to secure the tent spikes into the ground. Put the bug or mosquito net over your tent, and stretch it to where it extends about two feet beyond your tent's opening. Make sure there are no holes or tears in the netting. Place citronella bug repellent candles near your tent on rocks to prevent the occurrence of a fire. Start your campfire with normal logs and only burn the citronella logs after you have prepared any food on the fire.
Check your sleeping bag thoroughly before slipping inside of it. The Amazon region is home to many venomous insects and snakes that can easily slip into a tent undetected. Remove the sleeping bag from your tent and shake it vigorously to check for spiders or snakes. Do not approach any wild animals in the Amazon region. Limit your interactions with nature to sightseeing in order to avoid any injuries. Take several waterproof disposable cameras with you on your Amazon camping trip just in case you spot the legendary pink dolphin or any other exotic flora or fauna.
