Tent Camping on the Colorado River

There are many different options to chose from when camping on the Colorado River. It spans about 1,450 miles and runs through parts of Colorado, Utah, Arizona, California and Mexico before emptying into the Gulf of California.
  1. What to Bring

    • You'll need basic items like a tent, sleeping bag, camping stove, food and water when planning your trip. You may also consider bringing an air mattress, folding tables and chairs, pillows, first aid kit, rope, sunscreen, toilet paper, insect repellent, towels and other personal items like soap, shampoo and toothpaste to make your camping trip more enjoyable.

    Considerations

    • Campgrounds vary in what they have to offer campers. Some campgrounds have shaded tent sites, while others are exposed to full sun. If you are camping with more than 10 people, search for a campground that can accommodate groups. Most campgrounds allow two people per tent site.

    Pets

    • Some campgrounds are pet-friendly and allow dogs and cats on the premises. Call ahead to reserve your campsite and let the park ranger know you have a pet with you. Campgrounds require the animal be on a leash while outdoors. There may be an additional charge to bring an animal.
