Campgrounds on the River in North Georgia

Northern Georgia is a scenic region dominated by hardwood forests, flowing rivers and historic sights. Because the region offers so many opportunities for outdoor recreation, north Georgia is a popular camping destination. After a day of hiking, water sports and forest exploration, consider overnight accommodations at a riverside campground. These campgrounds provide spacious campsites with access to some of Georgia's most popular rivers.
  1. Riverbend Campground

    • Riverbend Campground is just outside the Chattahoochee National Forest in Hiawassee, Georgia, near the Georgia-Tennessee line. The campground offers 101 campsites suitable for tents, trailers and RVs of all sizes. Campsites are oversized and feature a grassy lawn, full hookups with 30- and 50-amp electric, water and sewer, wireless Internet access, a picnic table and fire pit. More than 25 campsites are directly on the river. Amenities include bathrooms and shower houses; a dump station; private river access with fishing areas; nature trails; an outdoor swimming pool; children's playground; volleyball court; horseshoe pits; convenience store and gift shop; two covered pavilions, and a clubhouse with community kitchen. The campground is pet-friendly and is open year-round. The closest restaurants are less than 10 minutes north of the campground.

    Toccoa Valley Campground

    • Toccoa Valley Campground is in the heart of the Aska Adventure Area in Blue Ridge, Georgia. The campground offers 14 tent campsites and 10 full-hookup campsites for trailers and RVs. Some campsites feature 30-amp electrical service while all have access to water, a picnic table and fire ring. Fourteen campsites are directly on the river. Amenities include a bathroom and shower house; private river access with fishing areas; nature trails, convenience store and picnic areas. Campground attractions include tubing and rafting on the Toccoa River. Guests can rent inner-tubes, rafts and canoes from the camp store and embark on a six-mile trip down the river. The campground is pet-friendly and is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The Toccoa Riverside Restaurant, the closest eatery, is about 10 minutes northwest of the campground.

    Tallulah River Campground

    • Tallulah River Campground is a U.S. Forest Service campground nestled deep within the the Chattahoochee National Forest near Clayton, Georgia. The campground offers 17 campsites suitable for tents, trailers and mid-sized RVs. There are three pull-throughs, no hookups, no waste station. Campsites are wooded and feature access to water, a picnic table and fire pit with barbecue grill. The campground is adjacent to the Tallulah River and offers rustic facilities such as vault toilets, picnic areas, private river access with fishing areas, and hiking trails. Guests can enjoy additional recreation opportunities at the nearby Coleman River Scenic Area. The campground is pet-friendly and is open year-round. The closest restaurants are about 30 minutes southeast of the campground, in central Clayton.
