Georgia Campgrounds on the Lake

Georgia is home to nine lakes operated by the United States Army Corps of Engineers and dozens of state and privately owned lakes. These lakes provide plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation such as boating, fishing, water sports and swimming. Camping on one of these Georgia lakes is a fun way to enjoy the recreational opportunities available while relaxing and being close to nature.
  1. Duckett Mill

    • Duckett Mill Campground is 40 minutes north of Atlanta. It is on the 38,000-acre Lake Sidney Lanier. The campground has 111 campsites; 97 have water and electric hookups, and 14 sites are primitive campsites for tents only. There are hot showers, a dump station and laundry room available for campers. Reservations are required at least two days prior to the visit. During the weekends, a minimum stay of two nights is required. On holiday weekends, the minimum stay is three nights. Duckett Mill is open from April through September each year. Guests may enjoy swimming at the lakeside beach. There also is a boat launch and a playground area.

    Holiday Campground

    • Holiday Campground is on West Point Lake. This lake is along the Georgia-Alabama line near West Point, Georgia. The campground has 143 sites: 51 primitive sites and 92 with electricity and water. A restroom facility with flushing toilets and hot showers is available. There is also a dump station for RV campers. A boat ramp for guests to use for boating, fishing or water skiing. The campground has nature trails as well as a playground, basketball court and tennis court. Reservations must be made four days in advance and for a minimum two-night stay. The campground is gated and has attendants on site 24 hours a day. Gates are locked from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily.

    Woodring Branch

    • Woodring Branch Campground is on Carter's Lake in northern Georgia and is open year-round. There are 42 campsites here; 11 are primitive sites while the other 31 have electricity and water hookups. The primitive campsites are for tents only. There are hot showers and a laundromat here, and a public phone is near the shower area. There also is a dump station for use by RV campers. Pets are welcome but must be on a leash or in a kennel at all times. The campground has a boat ramp and a fishing dock. Guests may swim at the lakeside beach area but should be aware of sudden drops in the water. Campground quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Campground gates are locked from 10 p.m. to 9 a.m. Campers may exit during this time but will not be permitted to enter.
