Things to Do in Windsor, California

Windsor, Calif., is in Sonoma County, on U.S. Highway 101 north of Santa Rosa. The small Wine Country town has a historic downtown and celebrates community life with a year-round series of events, several parks and a farmer's market. For the active, there are plenty of sporting opportunities in the parks, along with spectator sports throughout the summer.

  1. Visit the Community Parks for Sport and Recreation

    • Windsor, Calif., has three regular parks and several specialized parks. Eposti Park, Keiser Park and Hiram Lewis Park all feature the basics: Play areas, a soccer field, a softball field, restrooms and a picnic/barbecue area. Hiram Lewis Park has a basketball court, bocce ball court and tennis courts. Keiser Park has an outdoor stage. Eposti Park offers an additional hardball field.

      The Pat Elsbree Skate Park is for skateboarders and roller skating, while the Wilson Ranch Soccer Park is, as the name suggests, a soccer field with grandstand and concessions. During the summer, games are held regularly at the parks.

    Enjoy Life on the Windsor Town Green

    • Windsor has an active farmer's market on the Town Green. Each summer, Windsor also offer free movies and music in an ongoing event called Summer Nights on the Green. The events are free and child-friendly, running from June through August. The weekly Farmer's Market includes vendors, food concessions and artisans and coincides with the free music concerts, while the movies are held on a separate night.

    Special Events in Windsor, California

    • Windsor celebrates a series of special events through the year. A free Independence Day firework display takes place on July 3. Horse-drawn carriages go on tours for the holidays. On June 10, a free Fine Arts Show is held. Other events include Earth Day and Cinco de Mayo celebrations, as well as open-air Shakespeare plays in July.

    Visit the Hembree House

    • The Hembree House Cultural Art Center is home to the Windsor Historical Society. Hembree House has an art gallery, museum and gift store. Opened at the end of February 2009, the Center is open Friday through Sunday and features rotating displays of art and local history.
