The A321 is 146 feet long and contains a 113-foot long passenger cabin. Its fuselage is 13 feet wide, giving its cabin a maximum width of 12 feet, one inch. The plane is relatively large with a wingspan of 111 feet, 11 inches and a height of 38 feet, seven inches. It rides on a 55 foot, 6-inch wheelbase and a 25 foot, 11-inch track.
The A321's standard configuration holds 15 passengers in first class and 169 in economy, although it can fit as many as 220 passengers in a maximum density economy configuration. Airbus offers two types of premium seats, measuring either 19 or 22.6 inches wide, as well as two types of economy seats measuring either 17 or 18 inches wide.
In addition to carrying hundreds of people, the A321 offers the ability to hold up to 10 LD3-46W standard cargo containers, each of which holds 130 cubic feet of cargo. This gives it a total capacity of 1300 cubic feet, or 1508 cubic feet when the containers are combined with storage in its bulk hold. Without using standardized containers, the A321's bulk hold can contain 1828 cubic feet of cargo.
Airbus offers the International Aero Engines' V2500-A5 powerplant as one of the A321's two choices. The V2500 provides 27,000 pounds of thrust, supporting a maximum takeoff weight of 196,200 pounds and a maximum landing weight of 166,400 pounds. It has a maximum fuel capacity of 6,350 gallons and a range of 3,200 knots with a top speed of 0.82 mach.
The other configuration for the A321 has two CFM International CFM56-5B engines. Although these engines give the A321 the same 0.82 mach maximum speed and 3200 knot range, they are more powerful. Their 33,000 pounds of thrust give the A321 a maximum takeoff weight of 206,100 pounds and a maximum landing weight of 171,500 pounds. They also have a maximum fuel capacity of 7,935 gallons.
