Get a tracking number for an item you wish to track as it goes through the USPS system. At the Post Office, request Delivery Confirmation at the counter. They will add a sticker that has a tracking number unique to your letter or package and give you a receipt with the tracking number on it. If you are ordering online, USPS will send you an automated email giving you the 15-digit tracking number in the body of the email.
Locate the tracking number for your item. The tracking number could be on the postage receipt from the Post Office, in an email sent to you by the seller or in a letter sent to you by a friend.
Open your Internet browser and type in "USPS.com" in the URL search bar at the top of the browser.
Locate the "Tracking and Confirm" search bar on the USPS website. It is the white rectangle on the right-hand side of the webpage.
Click on the search bar and enter the tracking number for the package you wish to research.
Click "Track" and a new page will load on the USPS website with all the information regarding your package.
