Many airlines offer guests the convenience of checking a flight's status ahead of time so they can plan their arrival at the airport accordingly. The flight status information includes the flight's arrival, departure, runway and gate times. Visitors can obtain this information by entering the flight's number in the appropriate field on an airline's website or via phone. There may be slight variations on each airline's website when checking the status online, but the process is basically the same.
Check the status of a Delta or Northwest flight. Visit Delta.com (see the link in the Reference section) and scroll down to the "Flight Status" tool on the left side of the page. Click the "Flight number" field and enter the flight number. Click the field under "Flight Carrier" and choose "Delta" or "Northwest." Click "Go." This will take you to a page with details of the flight, such as the cities of departure and arrival, scheduled arrival time and estimated arrival time.
Find information for an AmericanAirlines flight. Visit AmericanAirlines.com (see the link in the Reference section). Scroll to "Gates and Times" near the bottom of the page. Enter the flight number into the "Flight Number" box. Click the "Go" button to proceed to the next page and view the flight information.
Search for information for a Southwest flight. Visit Southwest.com (see the link in the Reference section). Click "Check Flight Status" on the right side of the screen. Click the field labeled "Flight # (optional)" and type the flight number. Click "Go." The "View Flight Status Information" page will show the departure and arrival cities, scheduled time, estimated time and gate number for the flight.
Call the airline's customer service number to check the flight status on the phone. You can find this number on the airline's website, usually on the "Contact Us" page, or via JohnnyJet.com (see Resources below). Follow the automated prompts to enter the flight number.
