Travel classes are often differentiated by the fare or ticket price; however, there may also be reservation restrictions on a specific fare or travel class. Although passengers normally receive the same amenities as those in the same travel class, the price or restrictions may vary based on where the passenger purchased the ticket, how far in advance the ticket was purchased and the length of the stay. Normally, full fare passengers of any class may make changes to the reservation, while discount passengers may have tickets that are not refundable, changeable or transferable without having to pay additional fees.
The Economy Class on flights provides complimentary soft drinks, teas, juices and coffee, while alcohol is available for purchase. Depending on the flight duration and time of departure, snacks or meals are served to Economy Class passengers. Many airlines provide reading material and audio entertainment with movies and television programs for those who fly longer than a few hours for most flights. International flights provide pillows, blankets, meals and video screens.
Business Class flights have some of the benefits of Economy and some of the perks of First Class, such as a pre-departure beverage service or an amenities kit including items like lotions. The menus on Business Class flights provide the choice of one of three entrees which may feature the cuisine of the destination. Alcohol, cheese, fruit and dessert are served on some flights. In-flight entertainment often consists of on-demand programming and the option to choose personal entertainment, which may be enjoyed on noise-reducing headsets. At the airport, Business Class passengers receive priority check-in and boarding, bag delivery, showers and business services like phones, faxing, laptop ports and other services.
Although airlines may differ in what amenities they offer on First Class flights, airlines normally provide priority check-in at the airport, including baggage handling and boarding. On the flight, First Class flyers often have spacious seating, including armrests and the ability to recline in their seats. First Class flights usually offer a customized menu with an appetizer, soup, and salad as well as the choice of one of several entrees, dessert and cocktails. Meal services are usually not rushed and last about two hours. During the flight, First Class passengers can choose from a wider selection of entertainment. At some airports, those who fly First Class can enjoy showers and breakfast, as well as business services and complimentary alcohol and hors d'oeuvres.
