Airports Near Jacksonville, North Carolina

Jacksonville, N.C., is hailed as the commercial hub of Onslow County and is home to a Marine Corps base camp and air station. It's estimated that more than 80,000 people reside within the city limits. The city's eastern location and lengthy distances from the major cities of Raleigh, Charlotte and Greensboro can make it a challenge for air travelers. Because of this, Jacksonville offers three small airports within the area that serve military, commercial and private flying purposes.

    • Sky Manor Airport is a public airport that serves the Jacksonville and Onslow County areas. It features one runway that measures 3,610 by 85 feet. The 25-acre privately owned facility is located about eight miles from Jacksonville. The airport is intended for small aircraft use as it lacks a flight traffic control tower that are utilized by large, commercial airports.

    New River MCAS

    • New River Marine Corps Air Station, located in Jacksonville, is a Navy-owned, privately used airport. It features four runways: two measuring 4,790 by 150 feet and two measuring 5,114 by 150 feet. The runways can accommodate single-wheel crafts weighing up to 118,000 lbs., double-wheel crafts weighing up to 153,000 lbs. and double tandem wheel aircrafts weighing up to 230,000 lbs.

    Onslow County Airport (Albert J. Ellis Airport)

    • Albert J. Ellis Airport, or Onslow County Airport, is a county-owned public airport that offers two airlines (Delta and U.S. Airways) for public air travel. It features a single runway and three gates and is generally used by military personnel and general passengers. It generally only makes short trips. Common destinations are nearby major cities like Charlotte and Atlanta. The airport is located about 10 miles outside of Jacksonville.
