In 1984 Richard Branson, who was best known for his chain of music retail stores, announced plans to start his own airline. Virgin Atlantic was born. The airline was designed to offer quality travel for a reasonable price. The company currently uses Boeing 747 and Airbus A340s to ferry its customers worldwide. The only continent that Virgin does not fly to is South America.

BMI bases its fleet of airplanes at London Heathrow airport and offers flights across the UK, Europe, Africa, Asia and Middle Eastern countries. In its early incarnation BMI was an air force training school which opened in 1938. It later became a passenger airline in 1949 under the name Derby Aviation, changing its name to BMI in 1964.

Easy Jet is a budget UK airline that was opened in 1995 by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou. The airline originally flew to only a few destinations from its base at Luton Airport. It has grown to be one of Europe's best known budget airlines, with flights to 27 countries. It was also a pioneer in making airline bookings on-line, opening its easyJet.com site in 1997.
