List of Supplemental Airlines

The United States Department of Labor defines a supplemental airline as establishments which provide nonscheduled air transportation. The companies may transport cargo or passengers and the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) includes service companies such as ambulance, charter and helicopter carriers.
  1. Kalitta Air

    • Kalitta Air transports freight internationally. The airline operates Boeing 747s and was established in November 2000 by owner Conrad Kalitta. Kalitta Air delivers mail and packages to United States soldiers working in Iraq and Afghanistan. The company received a Certificate of Appreciation from Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom Operations in 2003.

    North American Airlines

    • North American Airlines operates Boeing 757s and 767s. The airline began in 1990 and is headquartered in Jamaica, New York. It provides air transportation for passengers only and serves the United States Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, sports teams and other airlines and government agencies. North American Airlines was chosen by President Barack Obama's campaign to provide air transportation to the then senator during campaigning in 2008 from April to November.

    Direct Air

    • Direct Air began providing passenger air transportation to the public in March 2007 and contracts flights to three independent airlines. The first, Xtra Airlines, operates as Direct Air with a fleet consisting of Boeing 737s and is headquartered in Boise, Idaho. Founded in 1994, Vision Airlines operates Boeing 767s and 737s and Dornier 328s and 228s aircraft. The third Direct Air-contracted carrier is Sky King, Inc. Gregg Lukenbill founded the airline in 1990 and operates BAC 1-11s. Sky King provides air transportation to athletics groups and corporations.

    World Airways

    • World Airways is a wholly owned subsidiary of Global Aviation Holdings Incorporated. The company was established in 1948 and transports passengers and cargo around the world. It operates the McDonnell Douglas' DC-10s and MD11s as well as Boeing's 747. The airline is a member of Metropolitan Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and partners with American Red Cross and Alzheimer's Research Foundation.

    Air Cargo Carriers

    • Air Cargo Carriers began in 1986. The airline operates Shorts Brothers 330s and 360s transporting cargo exclusively. The company provides flights from the United States to Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico. In addition to air transportation services Air Cargo Carriers provides avionics services, instrument system repair and PT6 engine overhauls.
