How to Understand an Airline Ticket

Your airline ticket, also known as a boarding pass, has all the information you need to find your gate and locate the correct airplane. Every major airline in the world uses boarding passes and provides the same basic information on every airline ticket. This allows you to locate your correct airplane, no matter what country you find yourself in around the world.

Instructions

    • 1

Look on the very top of the airline ticket. This is the company the ticket is through.

    • 2

Check over the flight number. This is usually one or two letters followed by a series of numbers. This allows you to look up your flight time on the television monitors around the airport in case the flight time has changed.

    • 3

View the destination city. This is printed on the airline ticket so you can make sure you are traveling to the correct city.

    • 4

Look over the departure time. On the ticket this is often printed on military time--so instead of printing 2:00 p.m., the time shows 14:00. This prevents any confusion over what time the flight leaves. There is often a "boarding time" also. This is the estimated time the plane begins to board passengers.

    • 5

Read your seat number and the zone you are in. The plane is usually booked by zone, so when your zone is called you may find your seat.
