When you contact your airline to change your flight, you will need to provide the confirmation number so that the airline can quickly access your reservation information.
Contact your airline. Most airlines require that you telephone them or speak to one of their representatives in person to change your ticket. You can speak to an airline representative in person by visiting one of the airlines' kiosks or desks at your local airport (provided that the airline that issued your ticket flies into your local airport). You can also navigate to your particular airline's website to locate contact information for that airline. Provide your name and confirmation number when you speak to an airline representative.
Discuss with the airline representative what you would like to do. If you would like to fly to your destination at a different time on the day that you were scheduled to fly, speak to the representative about whether there is another flight that day with available seats. If you would like to fly on another day at a specific time, let the representative know. The representative will check flight availability and explain your options for rescheduling. He or she will also let you know if there will be a cost associated with changing your plane ticket.
Confirm a new flight time and day, if applicable. The representative will reschedule you on a new flight. He or she will make sure that the new flight itinerary is acceptable to you before the new reservation is booked and confirmed.
Pay any fees associated with changing your plane ticket.
