When you purchase a ticket you must inform the travel agency (either in person or online), or the airline company itself of the full name of all the individuals flying. However, if one of the people no longer is available for the flight you probably want to give the ticket to someone else. To do so you must first change the name on the ticket to match the person who is now flying with you.
Contact the airline you are flying with (such as United or Korean Air). Navigate through the automated menu until you reach an in-person customer service representative.
Read off your itinerary number. This is the number placed on your emailed confirmation. The airline needs this to look up your information (although they can use your current information such as name and address, it takes longer to do so).
Ask to change the name on the airline ticket. You may be informed of a fee to change the name. As airlines continue adding more and more fees, the price for this may vary from a few dollars to well over $100.
Inform the customer service agent of the new name that needs to be on the ticket.
Give your payment information (if required) to the customer service individual. Once the payment is processed the new name is placed onto the airline ticket.
