Flying on an airplane can be a bit intimidating to new travelers, especially when it comes to getting the overhead storage compartments open. With the cramped quarters and the perceived need for hurry, it's often a bit difficult to get the compartment open in an expedient manner. Fortunately, once you've got the hang of it, opening the bins comes quite naturally.
Locate the latch on the front of the overhead storage bin. This will be towards the center of the bin.
Lift the latch with one hand and push up on the bin covering with the other. The overhead storage bin cover is designed to roll up and backwards so as not to pop up into the aisle of the plane.
Continue pushing the bin cover up and back until it ceases moving. The overhead storage bin is now open and ready to receive your carry-on luggage.
