Passengers on the same aircraft may get to the same place at the same time, but in-flight experience and amount paid to get there can vary significantly with the type of airfare class purchased. From standard seats with cramped space and no food to luxury flying with champagne and special service, there are several choices to make when choosing seats for flights.
Flying coach or economy is the most budget-friendly way to fly. Coach is the standard airfare class and usually has rows of three seats in larger jets, with rows of two in smaller airplanes. Space is generally limited for passengers flying coach, and seats do not fully recline. Snacks and drinks are at a minimum for those flying economy, though complimentary soft drinks are typically served in-flight and alcoholic beverages are available to those over 21 for a fee. A la carte snacks are sometimes served on flights to passengers flying coach, and some airlines offer the option of flying economy premium, which gives passengers a little extra legroom.
Passengers flying first class pay a significant increase in airfare for domestic and international flights. First class comes with amenities and advantages those flying coach don't receive. First class passengers on most airlines receive priority check-in, spacious seating, complimentary cocktails, a variety of food options and full meals for no charge. Blankets and pillows are typically available for first class passengers, and complimentary movies are sometimes shown in-flight. First class seating normally has a row of two over-sized seats instead of the standard smaller three-seat rows in coach, and some first class seats have adjustable headrests with further reclining capabilities.
Business class is the most luxurious way for passengers to travel by air. The top pricing option on most flights, business passengers receive priority boarding and deplaning as well as check-in and baggage delivery options. Passengers flying business class typically also gain entrance to the airline's exclusive airport clubs, which feature lounges with staffed bars and business services. Once on board the aircraft, business passengers choose from chef-designed fine dining options free of charge. Pre-departure beverage service is also usually available. Business/elite class travelers are seated in luxurious flat bed seats, which fully recline in order for passengers to sleep. Some airlines give business travelers complimentary amenity kits, which include products such as toothbrushes, slippers, eye shades and other toiletries. Full-sized pillows and blankets are normally available for no extra cost. Complimentary beverages are given throughout the duration of the flight, as well.
