Qatar Airways was founded in 1992 as the flagship carrier for the state of Qatar, in Doha. The airline quickly grew to include a fleet of long and medium range Airbus and Boeing aircraft and a route network of over 80 international destinations. As a strictly international airline, Qatar Airways takes great pride in its product and in the level of service provided once passengers are on board the aircraft.
The 2007 Sytrax Survey voted that Qatar Airways offers the best international first class product. First class passengers connecting or originating at the airlines hub in Doha, are granted access to the airlines "Premium Terminal." Equipped with its own spa, the Premium Terminal offers passengers the opportunity to relax prior to their journey. The terminal also offers office space as a quiet location to get work done, and a dining and lounge area to relax or mingle with other passengers. As boarding time approaches, guests are personally driven to the aircraft on the tarmac for boarding in the airline's own BMW Series 7. Once on board each passenger has their own personal space which can be converted between a full and complete bed with a feather duvet, a work area with a desk, or a seat to relax and watch a movie.
Qatar's business class offers travelers a way to get the most out of their flying experience without the full cost of First Class. Business passengers enjoy a 180 degree lie flat seat with an adjustable foot rest, eight in-seat massage functions and an in-seat power supply. Business Class passengers are also permitted to enjoy certain areas of the "Premium Terminal" in Doha, without some of the exclusive features only First Class may enjoy.
Flying in Economy on Qatar is not to be underrated. Each passenger has a choice between a selection of in-flight meals, complimentary alcohol and in-seat entertainment. Economy passengers also have the ability to shop duty-free once airborne.
Eating on board a Qatar Airways flight is to be compared to a five-star restaurant. Because of Qatar's extensive international presence, First Class passengers enjoy regional tastes depending upon their destination. The airline also boasts an extensive wine and champagne list to accompany the meal. Business Class travelers are offered a choice between menus featuring a six-course meal followed up by a coffee service and ending with high quality chocolates. Economy Class passengers are offered meals inspired by European and Indian sub-continent tastes complimented with free wines and spirits.
Disregarding the class of service, Oryx, the airlines personal in-seat entertainment system, offers all passengers enjoyment during their flight. The system contains news programming from BBC Word News and Al Jazeera, a list of movies which change monthly, 50 pre-loaded music CDs to listen to and build a playlist, and the ability to watch live television programming from Europe.
