Mexico is a popular vacation destination for travelers due to its numerous white sand beaches and extensive water-based activities. Mexicana Airlines offers both domestic and international flights, covering more international territory than any other airline based in Mexico.
Mexicana Airlines was founded 1921 and became Mexico's flagship airline in the 1940s. MexicanaClick began operations in 2005 as a subsidiary company of Mexicana Airlines, offering more regional flights. In 2009, MexicanaLink followed suit as a second subsidiary of Mexicana Airlines.
Mexicana Airlines flies to more than 65 locations in North, South and Central America as well as Europe. Mexicana Airlines flies to 13 Mexican cities and 12 major cities in the United States. Other major destinations of Mexicana Airlines include London, Madrid, Panama and Guatemala.
Mexicana Airlines offers a loyalty program for passengers. Members of Mexicana Airline's loyalty program earn frequent flyer miles on each flight with Mexicana. Frequent flyer miles are also earned on flights on any airline that belongs to the Oneworld alliance.
Mexicana Airlines features two tiers of service. The least expensive tier of travel on Mexicana Airlines is tourist class, where passengers are offered standard airline meals and snacks. For elite-class passengers, Mexicana Airlines employes an executive chef who personally creates the in-flight menu. The airline also employs a sommelier who provides the appropriate wines for each meal.
As of May 2010, Mexicana Airlines features 115 planes in its fleet, including its subsidiary airlines. The largest of the fleet are Boeing 767 jets that seat 169 passengers. Each plane accommodates elite and tourist-class passengers on its flights. Smaller Mexicana planes are Boeing 717 jets that seat 104 passengers.
