Air Canada Baggage Requirements

Air Canada is one of the few remaining airlines with service in the U.S. that still allows some free baggage. However, the carrier has rules and regulations regarding weight, size and amount.

  1. Checked Baggage

    • Air Canada allows each economy-class-ticketed passenger two free checked bags, regardless of destination or price of ticket. These bags cannot exceed 50 lbs or 62 inches in length.

    Carry-On Luggage

    • Passengers are allowed one carry-on bag, not to exceed 22 lbs. or 9 x 15.5 x 21.5 inches in size, and one personal item, such as a purse, not exceeding 6 x 13 x 17 inches.

    Executive Class/First Class

    • Passengers in Executive Class, Executive First, (or with Air Canada Super Elite, Elite and Star Gold Alliance status), are allowed three bags instead of the usual two, with a maximum weight of 70 lbs.

    Infants

    • Infants with or without a seat are allowed two checked bags. Infants in first class, whether as a lap child or with an individual seat, are allowed three. A stroller may be checked at the gate as well for any infant, regardless of seat.

    Excess Baggage

    • Bags between 50 and70 lbs. or between 63 and 115 inches are charged $75 CAD for trips between the U.S. and Canada. Bags over the free luggage allowance are charged $100 CAD. Excess baggage may be checked online, in advance, at a discount.
