Bellingham Airport Rules & Regulations

The Bellingham Airport is part of the Port of Bellingham and is located just south of the U.S.-Canada border. The airport serves the needs of commercial, corporate and general aviation and sees more than 200,000 travelers every year. Many customers use the airport as a stopover for trips to Seattle or Vancouver. Many of the airport's rules and regulations are in line with regulations set forth by the Transportation Security Administration.

  1. Security Guidelines

    • The Port of Bellingham uses security measures outlined by the Transportation Security Administration. Patrons should never leave bags or vehicles unattended and never accept packages from strangers. Airport officials ask that anyone that sees suspicious activity report it to an airport security official. Patrons should not joke about having bombs or explosives, or being a terrorist, while in the airport.

    Checking In

    • Make sure you have a photo ID when you check in at the terminal. The name on the ID should match the name on your ticket exactly. Officials recommend that patrons arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before their flight, as security measures can make checking in for a flight a longer process. While going through security, TSA officials may ask to hand search bags, X-ray bags or perform pat-down searches.

    Luggage

    • The Port of Bellingham does not have airport-specific guidelines for luggage. Its website recommends that patrons use luggage guidelines outlined by the TSA to determine what items can and cannot be packed. Patrons should also check any luggage restrictions for the airlines that fly out of the Port of Bellingham: Allegiant Air, Horizon Air, San Juan Airlines and Alaska Air. Many airlines restrict the weight of luggage and may charge a fee for each bag.

    Parking

    • Bellingham Airport does not require reservations to park in its public lots. The lot is located across from the main terminal and patrons may use cash or credit cards to pay for parking. The pay station for the parking lot is located by baggage claim. Patrons do not have to pay for the first 30 minutes of parking. After that, it's $1 for 31 minutes to an hour, $1 for each additional hour and $9 for a 24-hour period.

    Ground Transportation

    • The Port of Bellingham offers four different car rental companies for its patrons: Avis, Budget, Enterprise and Hertz. Shuttle service from the Port to airports in Seattle/Tacoma and Vancouver is provided. Six different taxi services serve the airport, but patrons must call to schedule pickup.
