Virgin Blue, Australia's first low-fare airline, operates 2,100 flights a day to 24 Australian cities and eight international destinations.
Check-in opens 60 minutes before departure for a domestic Australian fight. However, boarding starts 20 minutes before departure, so it is recommended that you check in at least 30 minutes before your flight.
Virgin Blue charges for checked bags. You can pre-pay for your checked items up to 50 pounds when buying your tickets; otherwise a $20 fee (Australian) applies at the airport per bag.
Virgin Blue allows the transport of two domesticated pets (cats and dogs) per flight. The pets must travel in the cargo hold except for service animals, such as a guide dog. Reservations need to be made through the airline's Guest Contact Center.
Virgin Blue offers food and beverages on board for purchase. Cash or credit card may be used, with a maximum charge of $100 (Australian) per fight. Beverages average $3 (Australian), and full meals average $8 (Australian). Nothing is complimentary.
Once airborne, Virgin Blue offers passengers two entertainment options: Virgin Blue Voyeur, the company's branded magazine found in every seat back pocket, and live2air, featuring 24 live television channels at every seat back.
