Many travelers have a favorite airline which they tend to stick with to gain a higher frequent-flyer status. But often a trip or two is taken on another airline for which miles are earned, but in too small of an amount to redeem a flight. Donating these miles to a worthy cause is great way to make use of them and to prevent them from going to waste.
Log in to your frequent-flyer account on the airline's website.
Click on the link that allows you to redeem or use miles or look for a link that allows you to give or donate miles.
Use the search box on the page and enter "Donate Miles" if you cannot find this option within the redeem-miles section. All airlines are different in how they organize their site and this will allow you to find the donation page if it is not easily visible.
Use the drop-down menu to select the charity to which you wish to donate. Options often include organizations such as the American Red Cross, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Special Olympics.
Enter how many miles you wish to donate in the box provided. Most airlines require a minimum donation of 1,000 miles. If you have more than that, you can split your donation and give to multiple organizations.
Click the "Submit" button or the button that allows you to finalize the donation. You should receive an email confirmation regarding your donation.
