Avoid traveling during peak season. The peak season for Maui is from December to the first week of April. Though its balmy weather is lovely at any time of the year, travelers flock to Maui during the winter months having tired of the winter cold. Flights in July and August pick up as well since most people take vacations in these 2 months. The island is still wonderful during off-season, only the flights and hotels are cheaper and the beaches aren't as congested.

Book 21 days in advance. Airlines base their ticket prices on the number of seats that have already been filled as the flight date draws nearer. Booking 3 weeks in advance guarantees you're one of the cheaper booked passengers setting the price. Also, allow yourself a 1 to 2 day leeway before or after your desired travel dates. It is even better if you can have a 1 to 2 week leeway. Each week can vary in price since specific activities can alter availability. Conventions, for example, usually last a week and prices increase since there are fewer seats to Maui available. If you have several choices for dates of travel, you may find a better price.

Take red-eye flights late at night or early in the morning. These flights are the cheapest. Besides, flights to Maui take an average of 9 hours, giving you plenty of time to sleep as you wing along the skies. Schedule flights with layovers. Though you will spend more time traveling (possibly 12 hours instead of 9), they are invariably cheaper than direct flights.

Use airfare comparison websites, like TripMama, Priceline or Kayak (see Resources below). There are some websites that are dedicated for travel to Hawaii only, like Hawaii.com, and Hawaiian Air also offers discounts you should consider. However, the bigger comparison sites typically save you more money as they offer more choices. But look at last-minute deals any of these sites offer. Prices are rock-bottom since airlines want to fill their seats.
