Visit a website, such as Hotwire.Com, Priceline.Com, LowFares.com, and CarRentals.com. These websites will allow you to compare car rental quotes from the major agencies. By using their websites you will often receive special low rates only offered through their website.
Select the type of car to rent. Some of your choices are "Economy," "Sedan," "SUV," and "Van." Keep in mind that the larger the vehicle equals the higher your rental rates will be. Therefore, for the lowest rate you should choose an economy vehicle. Not only will the rental rate be less, but you will also receive better gas mileage.
Enter the dates for your rental. You should enter the date and time you would like to pick up the car as well as the date and time you would like to return the car. Because many car rental agencies offer special weekend rates, most of your lowest rates are on weekend rentals, rented Friday and returned Monday.
Click on the "Submit" or "Search" option to find rates that are offered by the rental agencies. Once you have viewed the search results and located the lowest rate, check if the rate is only available by making your reservation through that website. If that is the case, make your reservation through the website instead of reserving directly through the car rental agency.
Bring your own theft and collision insurance to keep your rate low. If you don't have your own insurance, the rental agency will charge you additional fees for its insurance.
