Cadillacs Aren't Made in Mexico—But These GM Trucks Are

Contrary to some assumptions, Cadillac production remains entirely in the U.S. But several high-volume GM trucks roll off Mexican assembly lines.

Cadillac: U.S.-Only Production

Current Cadillac models are built at:

• Detroit-Hamtramck (Factory ZERO), Michigan — EV hub (Lyriq, Celestiq, GMC Hummer EV)
• Spring Hill, Tennessee — XT5, XT6, Lyriq
• Lansing Grand River, Michigan — CT4, CT5, Blackwing variants

No Cadillac production in Mexico since the 1990s (when some Sevilles were briefly assembled at Ramos Arizpe).

GM Trucks Made in Mexico

Silao Assembly, Guanajuato (opened 1995, 6,000+ workers):

• Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (crew cab)
• GMC Sierra 1500 (crew cab)

Ramos Arizpe Assembly, Coahuila (opened 1981, GM's oldest Mexican plant):

• Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (regular/double cab)
• GMC Sierra 1500 (regular/double cab)
• Chevrolet Cheyenne — Mexico-exclusive Silverado variant
• Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain (crossovers)
• Blazer, Traverse (SUVs)

Why Mexico?

Lower labor costs, USMCA tariff-free access, skilled workforce, proximity to U.S. supply chain. GM's $1B+ Silao expansion (2020) added paint shop and body shop for next-gen trucks.

Global Footprint

GM also builds trucks in Fort Wayne (IN), Flint (MI), Oshawa (ON), and São Caetano do Sul (Brazil). Model allocation shifts with demand, trade policy, and capacity.
