Decide what type of vehicle you want to rent. Not all long term car rental companies offer the same variety of cars for rental. Small compact cars will be less expensive than family or luxury cars. "Companies will offer the larger vehicles for long term rentals because they don't rent as fast as the small compact cars," said a Hertz Rental Car agent.
Book your long term rental online or at the car rental agency. If this is your first time, you will need to present a valid driver's license, three references and a major credit card. Car rental agencies will not accept debit or check cards for long term rentals. You may need to purchase gap insurance to cover the car even if you have an insurance policy. Gap insurance covers the difference your insurance company will pay in the event of damage to the vehicle and what the car is actually worth.
Review mileage limits before you rent a car long term. Larger rental companies usually provide unlimited mileage with long term rentals. If you have mileage restrictions this can be costly as a per mile fee could be added to the total cost of your rental.
